ALEX FORSEY
Documentary and portraiture exploring identity, intimacy, and place.

A Congregation is a visual exploration of identity, ego, and the cultural significance of the automobile. For many, the car is more than a means of transport—it is an extension of the self. Like fashion, it serves as a tool for self-expression, reflecting personal style, social status, and cultural belonging. It symbolizes independence, freedom, and individuality.

This series examines the rituals and aesthetics of car worshippers—those who gather around the shared passion for speed, engineering, and style. In July 2010, I traveled to Silver Spring, Washington D.C., and then to Maryland’s oldest drag strip, the ‘75-80’ Dragway in Monrovia, where I spent the day immersed in the world of drag racers and automotive enthusiasts. These images capture the intensity, pride, and personal mythology embedded in car culture.
